Dear Parents, Students, and Community,

It is with great honor and excitement that I introduce myself, Kim Oblack, as the new Principal of North Columbia Academy. I have been teaching for 14 years and have taught in many areas including career and college counseling, special education, fine arts, and working as the Dean of Students. I have a Master’s in Education and an administrative license through George Fox University. I was raised in the neighboring community of Vernonia and currently live there with my family. We have two children ages 18 and 13. I enjoy farming, rafting, golfing, painting, and cooking. I have a deep understanding of rural life and a great appreciation for NW Oregon.

I want you to know that I am first and foremost an advocate for students. I will seek to ensure a high quality education filled with real-world opportunities that meet the needs of our students at NCA. Educational opportunities will be offered through traditional and non-traditional means but will all fall under the Oregon Dept. of Ed. graduation requirements. We will be taking numerous field trips outside the classroom to ensure exposure to career opportunities as well as supplementing classroom curriculum.

I am joining a group of exceptional teachers and leaders. Noah Elliott and Margaret Johnson will remain teaching at NCA and help guide us all in academic excellence. I will also be teaching a couple of classes. Cheryl Roberts, Administrative Assistant/Registrar, will again be leading the NCA office with professionalism and consistency.

Class offerings through NCA will be guided by the needs of our students. I am here to assist you in reaching graduation as well as assisting students in the development of college and/or career plans. In the coming month we will be putting out a senior calendar to help students be prepared for all the opportunities available this year. It is also my goal to keep an up to date website for NCA through the district website at If you have questions or concerns please feel free to call me at (503) 556-3777 Extension 282. I’m very excited to meet students and start a great year!

Kim Oblack
